About the Monitoring Notification Documents
CDPH's drinking water quality monitoring notification documents identify upcoming required contaminant testing of drinking water for water systems in California. They are updated periodically to reflect changes in the database.
These documents should not be used for determining whether water systems are in compliance with monitoring requirements. The purpose of posting these monitoring schedules is to allow water systems to view what the CDPH database includes as upcoming required monitoring, so that water systems can plan for those sampling events. In addition, it allows water systems to make sure their scheduled monitoring is consistent with that of the CDPH Drinking Water Program.
Posting also allows water systems to view whether the results of their sampling and analysis have been incorporated into the CDPH database. If they have not, then steps can be taken to make sure the data are submitted properly.
These reports are current as of the publication date. Testing shown as "DUE" may not be overdue, particularly if results were submitted as the reports were being prepared or thereafter.
Some older data may not be present in the CDPH database, and these are indicated in the schedule as "DUE." If these samples were taken, have your laboratory submit the data. Since 2001, data have been required to be submitted directly to the Department via electronic data transfer (EDT). Have your laboratory submit those data to CDPH via EDT, if sampled after 2001, as required, and prior to 2001, if possible. Your laboratory can contact CDPH's Monitoring and Evaluation Unit at email@example.com for further information. If you have analytical data that cannot be submitted by EDT, contact your district engineer for further instructions.
CDPH requests that water systems contact their Drinking Water Program district engineers (PDF)to discuss any discrepancies in the monitoring notification documents, and to make sure laboratories have submitted analytical data as required. Corrections will occur in the next update.
Some Notes for Water Systems
1. The monitoring notification documents should be considered "draft," in that they will change with subsequent updates, and as monitoring data are submitted, or as monitoring schedules are revised .
2. The monitoring notification documents are derived from the CDPH Water Quality Management database and from schedules maintained by Drinking Water Program district engineers.
3. If your upcoming monitoring or your data identified as "DUE" are not in agreement with this document, or if your have been advised of any increased monitoring that is not reflected in the report for a particular source, please contact your district engineer.
4. If your notification report for a source is blank, that does not necessarily mean your are in compliance with all monitoring requirements.
5. These notifications reports do not reflect compliance with initial monitoring for newly regulated constituents, or constituents that require special monitoring frequencies. For example, the CDPH database is unable to accurately forecast the following for the notification reports: (a) the initial monitoring required for MTBE; (b) the non-volatile synthetic organic chemical (SOC) frequency for large water systems serving over 3,300 people of 2 quarters every 3 years; and (c) the repeat monitoring frequency for radiological constituents: The frequency of long-term radiological monitoring will be reflected in the schedule upon completion of initial monitoring by the water system and review by CDPH staff. Guidance for conducting initial radiological monitoring was previously distributed to all community and non-transient non-community water systems.
