Marriage Licenses Sold in California
The State of California’s marriage counts are based on the number of marriage licenses issued, and may not accurately reflect the actual number of marriages performed. These data tables represent the most accurate estimation of marriage counts available at this time.
Due to processing and reporting lag times, the most recent months of data displayed should be interpreted with caution.
Marriage counts in these tables are based on the county where the marriage license is issued and purchased. Marriages may be performed in a different county than the one in which the license was issued.
Marriage licenses are valid for 90 days from date of issuance. If not used within 90 days, the couple must obtain a new license, which can contribute to an overestimation of the actual number of marriages performed.
Note that demographic data, including gender and ethnicity, are not captured on the marriage records and are therefore not available for analysis or display.
