Lactation Educator / Lactation Consultant Training Programs
The Lactation Educator Training Program consists of a full five days of classroom lectures, followed by a required 12 hours of student clinical consultations, 10 hours of community observation, and written assignments, including the development of a breastfeeding curriculum. The program provides comprehensive "hands-on" and theoretical training. This course is intended to prepare health professionals and other interested people to be lactation educators either in private practice or as part of their clinical employment. Emphasis is placed on maximizing professional use of scientific data and understanding problems of clinical management. It also provides practical information for assisting individual mothers and infants.
The Lactation Consultant Training program requires completion of the Lactation Educator Training Program or equivalent. It is a 12 day advanced training program for licensed health professionals. With the increasing demand for management of complex breastfeeding problems, there is a greater need for skilled professionals to be lactation consultants either in private practice or in clinical employment. The focus of this program is on maximizing professional use of scientific data and understanding problems of clinical management.
Lactation Management Course
Presents a comprehensive presentation of the skills and knowledge needed for evidence-based professional lactation consultant practice. Increases the knowledge and skill of perinatal health professionals, and helps prepare candidates for the examination sponsored by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. Six full days of instruction conclude with an examination simulation to help identify strengths and gaps in skill and knowledge areas. Interactive activities, clinical slides and videos, and skill-building techniques create a uniquely warm and supportive learning environment. This course was the first lactation course designed on the Exam Blueprint, and is the longest-running course of its kind.
