Perinatal Multidisciplinary Quality Improvement Tutorial
MO-10-0017 BFP
Preparing Hospital Management for the Birth and Beyond California (BBC) Project
Some hospitals that qualified for the Birth and Beyond California Project were not yet ready to participate. Regional Perinatal Program of California (RRPC) Region 8, in Orange County, developed and offered a six-session Quality Improvement (QI) tutorial workgroup in order to prepare them for participation. Tutorial participants learned how to create systems to successfully improve their maternity services.
Hospital administration, risk management and perinatal management staff from multiple facilities were invited to participate in this tutorial work group that was led by RPPC staff. Outside speakers were added when appropriate. Through this series of sessions, the group learned how to create a Multidisciplinary Quality Improvement (MQI) Committee for each facility using Work Group participants as the nucleus.
The outcome of the six one-hour sessions was a Hospital Quality Improvement Team at each facility. The Team provided leadership in implementing evidence-based policies and practices that support breastfeeding within the maternity care setting. In addition, those who participated in this project became the nucleus for their own Regional Quality Improvement Network.
Below are the meeting topics and downloadable materials. Speaker’s notes in the PowerPoint presentations provide additional direction.
