California Student Tobacco Survey, 2011- 2012 (PDF, New Window)
The California Student Tobacco Survey (CSTS), funded by the California Tobacco Control Program of the California Department of Public Health, is conducted biennially by WestEd, Inc. The CSTS is a large-scale, in-school student survey of tobacco use. Althoughsurveys are collected for both middle (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12) students, the sample size of middle school students was insufficient to allow for the calculation of county and regional estimates. the sampling strategy includes stratification by 12 regions in California, with sample sizes that allow for the calculation of regional and some individual county estimates.
California Adult Tobacco Survey 2010 (PDF, New Window)
The California Adult Tobacco Survey (CATS) was developed for adults over 18 years of age. The annual sample size has about 4,000 respondents. Participants are asked about a wide variety of behaviors related to past and present cigarette smoking, and attitudes and beliefs about tobacco use.

This survey is an ongoing effort by CTCP in conjunction with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to assess the prevalence of and trends in health-related behaviors in the California population aged 18 years and older.

The California Tobacco Surveys (CTS), funded by the California Tobacco Control Program of the California Department of Public Health, have been conducted every three years since 1990 by the Cancer Prevention and Control Program of the University of California, San Diego. The CTS is a large-scale random-digit-dial telephone survey that includes a screener survey, an adult extended survey, and a youth survey. The sampling strategy includes stratification by 18 regions in California, with sample sizes that allow for the calculation of regional and some individual county estimates. Results from 2009 Youth Tobacco Purchase Survey
The California Youth Tobacco Purchase Survey (YTPS), required by Federal Synar amendment, is conducted annually by San Diego State University, Behavior Health Institute. YTPS is a scientific, unannounced survey that involves choosing a random sample of retail outlets, and then estimating the overall State illegal sales rate to minors based on the results of the inspections of the sampled outlets.
