Living Healthy with a Disability
The Living Healthy with a Disability Unit under the auspices of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Safe and Active Communities (SAC) Branch, started operations July 1, 2002 under a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Starting in 2002, the program created a Strategic Plan, Planning for Today, Thinking of Tomorrow. Through the Strategic Plan, Living Healthy with a Disability found life and purpose asreflected in the mission statement of promoting the health and quality of life of people with disabilities (PWD) and to prevent or lessen the effects of secondary conditions through collaborative leadership to affect environmental, policy and systems changes.
