Upon initial funding from the CDC, SHC conducted a needs assessment to examine the status of infrastructure supports for coordinated school health at the state and local level, to establish a baseline for future impact evaluation. The needs assessment was completed in 1998 and provided general recommendations as first steps toward developing a long-range plan. CDE and CDHS then formed the Coordinated School Health Work Group (CSHWG), a group of more than 70 people from a broad spectrum of organizations. This workgroup was convened to determine how best to build an interagency system of supports within health and education for the state’s children and their families.
