Preventing Worker Injuries & Deaths from Falls

Fall hazards are present in many occupational settings, but the construction industry has the highest frequency of fall-related fatalities. Falls account for one of every three deaths in construction.

Worker falls frequently involve slippery, cluttered, or unstable walking/working surfaces; unprotected edges; floor holes and wall openings; unsafely positioned ladders; and misused fall protection equipment.

The Occupational Health Branch (OHB) Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation (FACE) Program investigates fatal workplace incidents to better understand and explain to employers and workers how to prevent fatalities. We encourage employers to use our fall prevention materials to raise awareness about falls and how to prevent them.
