PROTECT ProgramMasked worker looking to the side

The Program for Respirator Outreach, Training, Education, and Community Testing (PROTECT) is dedicatedā€‹ to providing workers and the general public the tools they need to protect themselves from respiratory hazards, such as wildfire smoke or infectious diseases such as COVID-19. Our mission is to provide accessible training, educational materials, and community fit testing resources to improve community understanding and use of respiratory protection.

Enhance Respiratory Protection: Join Our Initiative

We seek input from community-based organizations, labor unions, volunteer firefighter groups, labor advocacy groups, workers, and communities without access to respiratory programs.
Your insights will shape our training content and delivery. Your expertise and experience are integral to develop a program that best serves your communities and we would be honored to have your participation. It is important for us to include and amplify community feedback and opinions. Organizations partnering as pilot sites will receive a financial incentive.
Contribute to this cause by participating in our interview-style meetings. Email usā€‹ to get involved.ā€‹

About our Program

PROTECT is a collaboration between the CDPH Occupational Health Branch, the Public Health Institute, and the National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL)ā€‹ . Using a train-the-trainer model, we will be developing a toolkit that organizations can use to provide respirator education and fit testing to members of their community. We will be partnering with 3 organizations across California to pilot test and improve the toolkit prior to more widespread dissemination.ā€‹ā€‹
