Preconception health refers to a person's physical, mental, emotional, social and relational well-being before and between pregnancies. Health is not simply the absence of illness, but a state where all people have the necessary resources, community, and culture support to achieve the best health possible for themselves and their families.
The
Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Division partners with organizations and stakeholders across the state and nation to support the Preconception Health and Health Care Initiative efforts to eliminate disparities in maternal and infant morbidity and mortality by integration, development, promotion of and access to preconception health, health care, sexual and reproductive health services and psychosocial well-being for people in California.
