Summer Produce Social Media Toolkit
The California Department of Public Health/Women, Infants and Children Division (CDPH/WIC) has developed social media for produce that is in season during the summer. The content is based on the seasonal produce guide published by the United States Department of Agriculture. Buying fresh produce in-season helps WIC participants get more out of their Fruits and Vegetables Benefit. Fresh fruit and vegetables also cost less when they are in season.
This social media content can be used as part of WIC local agencies' promotion of the continued Temporary Fruits and Vegetables Increase Benefit. The benefit increase that started in October 2021 has been extended through September 2022!
The increased dollar amounts will continue to be:
- $24 per month for children ages 1 to 5,
- $43 per month for pregnant and postpartum individuals and
- $47 per month for fully and partially breastfeeding individuals.
Some WIC local agencies also participate in the Farmers' Market Nutrition Programāwhere WIC families may be eligible to receive an additional $30 in farmers market benefits per family, on top of the monthly WIC Fruits and Vegetables Benefit dollars.
