Animal Poo & You

Staying Healthy Around Your Animals

About this Curriculum

Animal Poo & You is an integrated curriculum designed to introduce basic zoönotic disease prevention concepts to youth engaged in agricultural activities. Animal Poo & You includes four animated video lessons presented in a musical narrative with supplementary materials for instructors and learners:

  • Animal Poo & You logo featuring a cartoon cow, chicken, pig, piglets, and goat

Fecal Matters – Germs in fecal matter can make you sick!

  • Achoo! It's Novel Flu…and SARS-CoV too! – When you exhale your air, germs can travel everywhere.

  • Handwash Hoedown – The soap you use can help reduce the germs living on your skin.

  • The Vet's Visit – Whether it's a fever, cold, or cough, a visit from the vet is just the trick.

Animal Poo & You is intended to provide young learners with a basic foundation of zoönotic disease prevention information that supports both animal wellness and public health. The concepts in the lessons teach youth how to care for their animals and protect the health of people who may interact with their animals. As youth continue to develop their knowledge and skills raising livestock, they can build upon what they learned in Animal Poo & You.

Animal Poo & You Overview

  • Basic introduction to zoönotic disease prevention concepts – set to song!

  • Designed for youth ages 5-8 years

  • Great for young students involved in agricultural activities (such as 4-H)

  • Currently includes four (4) lessons that can be viewed/shared individually or as a set

  • Supplementary lesson materials are available for ag program leaders and youth instructors
