COVID-19 Community Vaccine Advisory Committee Questions and Answers

ā€‹Why has California established a Community Vaccine Advisory Committee?

To ensure the vaccine is distributed and allocated equitably, California has created two related work groups: a Drafting Guidelines Workgroup charged with developing California-specific guidance for the prioritization and allocation of vaccine when supplies are limited, and a Community Advisory Vaccine Committee to provide input and feedback to the planning efforts and solve barriers of equitable vaccine implementation and decision-making.

What organizations are on the Community Vaccine Advisory Committee?

A list of the Community Advisory Vaccine Committee members can be found on the Community Vaccine Advisory Committee page. These organizations represent diverse communities throughout California.

What will the Community Vaccine Advisory Committee do?

California's planning process for the eventual distribution and administration of COVID-19 is guided by the overarching principles of ensuring the COVID-19 vaccine meets safety requirements; ensuring that the vaccine is distributed and allocated equitably, at first to those with the highest risk of becoming infected and spreading COVID-19; and transparency, by bringing in community stakeholders from the outset.

The Community Vaccine Advisory Committeeā€™s work will be closely coordinated with both the work of the Scientific Safety Review Workgroup and the Drafting Guidelines Workgroup.  The Scientific Safety Review Workgroup will provide updates to the Community Advisory Committee on the safety of the vaccines; and the Drafting Guidelines Workgroup will develop draft guidelines for the Community Advisory Vaccine Committee to review and provide feedback on based on their knowledge and expertise.

Will there be opportunities for other stakeholders to provide feedback on the stateā€™s vaccine distribution plan?

The meetings of the Community Vaccine Advisory Committee will be conducted virtually and open to the public in a listen-only mode.  All meetings will be noticed on the CDPH website in advance and summaries of the committeeā€™s meetings will also be posted.
