All Required Vaccines Rate FAQs

What is the All Required Vaccines (ARV) Rate?

The ARV Rate (formally known as the UTD Rate) is the percentage of students in a school or child-care facility that received all required vaccines.

How is the ARV Rate calculated?

The ARV Rate (the percentage of students fully-vaccinated)  =  (Number of Students with All Required Immunizations/Number of Students Enrolled) *100

How are specific vaccine rates calculated?

  • DTP rate: % of students with all required DTP doses
  • Polio rate: % of students with all required polio doses
  • MMR rate: % of students with all required MMR doses
  • Hib rate: % of students with all required Hib doses
  • Hep B rate: % of students with all required Hep B doses
  • Varicella rate: % of students with all required varicella (chickenpox) doses

Why is the ARV Rate much lower than each vaccine-specific rate, e.g. DTP Rate?

The ARV Rate is an overall measure of fully-vaccinated students.  The ARV Rate is always lower than the lowest vaccine-specific rate, e.g. DTP Rate, since it is a measure of overall school/facility vaccination status over multiple vaccines.  See table below illustrating this.
