Suggested messaging: The World Health Organization has declared mpox a global health emergency because of a new type of mpox leading to increased cases in Africa.

While this new type is not in the U.S., and the risk to the general public here is very low, mpox is still circulating. Take simple steps to protect yourself from the new virus, including getting the two-dose vaccine.

Other Non-CDPH Mpox Resources

  • Mpox Communications Toolkit and Creative Assets (NCSD) - The themes and messages in the creative assets were directly informed by focus group participants’ feedback on messages and on how they were making their own vaccine decisions. Key messages in these materials include:

    • Mpox is still around.

    • The vaccine is safe and effective.

    • Two doses of the vaccine offer the most protection.

    • Being fully vaccinated is a good way to protect yourself, the people you care about, and your lifestyle.

This toolkit includes videos, digital ads, social media content, and print materials to help educate Californians about the importance of maintaining a sexual health routine. Feel free to share via social media platforms, websites, patient portals, emails, and other ways to reach your audiences.

CDPH Social Media - General Audience

Share the following images and suggested messaging on social media.

How can I protect myself from mpox?
Get fully vaccinated to reduce the change of severe mpox illness.
Talk openly with partners about symptoms and recent travel before intimate contact.
Avoid contact with materials (such as clothes, towels, bedding) used by a person with mpox.
