Environmental Health Laboratory BRANCH (EHLB)

The Environmental Health Laboratory Branch (EHLB) provides technical expertise on air quality and biochemistry measurements to identify emerging environmental exposures and promote the health of all Californians. It has a multidisciplinary staff of 30 experts in chemistry, toxicology, aerosol science, ventilation, engineering, and  epidemiology. EHLB scientific activities include:

  • Community biomonitoring, air measurements, and mitigationsā€‹
  • Identification of emerging product toxics including lead and vaping
  • Emergency preparedness including wildfire smoke
  • Indoor air quality guidelines & airborne pathogen risk reduction strategies
  • New lab method development
  • Analytical lab testing & sample tracking
  • Exposure assessment study design & analysis
  • Technical consultations for environmental health guidance ā€‹
