Ayurveda
Ayurveda is a traditional system of medicine originating in India. Ayurveda uses various herbs, minerals, and sometimes metals in its remedies. In a form of Ayurveda called Rasasashtra, heavy metals such as lead, mercury, and arsenic are intentionally added for their believed therapeutic effects. Ayurveda products are made in various forms including tablets, pills, powders, teas, herbs, and spices.
Poisoning Case
Neeti's Story (YouTubeāā video): This video shares the personal story of a woman who was poisoned by lead, mercury, and arsenic after taking Ayurvedic medications. Included are CDPH physicians who provide advice on symptoms and testing for heavy metals in the body.
Surma
Surma is a traditional eye cosmetic, typically brought to the United States from other countries, and is used in various cultures, particularly in South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, to darken the eyelids or as eyeliner. It is believed to have medicinal properties and is often applied for many reasons, including cultural or religious customs. Analysis revealed that many Surma samples contained high levels of lead, arsenic, and cadmium.
Vietnamese Remedies
