Data Dashboards

The Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Divisionā€‹ publishes online data dashboards for California, all designed to serve the data needs of our partners and stakeholders. State-, county- and/or regional-level ā€‹data are shown by various stratifications or subgroups and by year. Each dashboard also includes a link to download the data. The dashboards are organized by the five Title V health domains: Women/Maternal, Perinatal/Infant, Child, Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) and Adolescent. Delivery Methods

While most pregnant individuals can have normal vaginal births, caesarean delivery is an alternative delivery method performed when vaginal delivery carries risk for the fetus and/or pregnant individual. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is abusive behavior that occurs in relationships with current or former spouses or partners, and includes physical, verbal, emotional, psychological, financial, and sexual abuse. Maternal Health Conditions at Delivery

Health conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, and hypertension, experienced before, during, and after pregnancy, are associated with poor maternal and infant health outcomes. Maternal Mental Health

MIHA Data Snapshots

The Maternal and Infant Health Assessment (MIHA) is an annual, statewide-representative survey of California residents with a recent live birth. The MIHA Data Snapshots Dashboard presents tables of multiple maternal and infant health indicators from the MIHA survey at the state, county, and regional levels for 2013-2021.


Population Count of Women (Ages 15ā€“44)

One in eight US residents lives in California, making California the nationā€™s most populous state. The population count of women (ages 15ā€“44) dashboard contains maps, bar charts, and trend charts using state- and county-level data for 2010ā€“2023.


Pregnancy-Related Mortality

Pregnancy-related mortality is a key indicator of population health. The pregnancy-related mortality dashboard contains a map, bar charts, and trend charts using state-level data for 2009āˆ’2021.


Prenatal Care

Daily folic acid consumption before pregnancy is very important for the prevention of neural tube defects, which are serious defects of the brain, spine or spinal cord; examples include spina bifida and anencephaly. Selected Maternal Complications

The California Dignity in Pregnancy and Childbirth Act (Senate Bill 464) took effect in January 2020. One mandate is for the California Department of Public Health to track and publish rates of the following maternal complications (Health & Safety Code 123630.4): obstetric hemorrhage, hypertension, preeclampsia, eclampsia, venous thromboembolism, sepsis, cerebrovascular accident, and amniotic fluid embolism. Severe Maternal Morbidity

Severe maternal morbidity includes unexpected and potentially life-threatening complications from labor and delivery, such as hemorrhage, infection and cardiac events, that result in significant short- or long-term health consequences. Substance Use Disorder at Delivery

Amphetamine, cannabis, and opioid use disorders are the most common substance use disorders diagnosed during in-hospital delivery admissions in California. Weight Gain During Pregnancy

Newborn Screening Conditionā€‹s

Child Health Status

Child Preventive Dental Visits

Child Preventive Medical Visits

The child preventive medical care visits indicator describes the estimated number of children aged 0ā€“17 years who saw a doctor, nurse, or other health care provider for a preventive check-up in the past year. Children in Poverty

The children in poverty measure describes the estimated number of children from birth through age 17 years in families living at or below the federal poverty threshold. Children with Resilient Families

Children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) are those who have a chronic physical, developmental, behavioral or emotional condition and, regardless of diagnosis, require additional services and support compared to their peers without special health care needs. Adolescent Births

Adolescent Mental Health

Adolescent Mortality

Adolescents, aged 10 to 19 years, represent 14% of the total estimated population in California; reflecting relatively good health, they only account for approximately 0.5% of all California deaths.
