The California Vital Data (Cal-ViDa) query tool allows users to creāate custom queries using California's birth and death data.
After creating a Cal-ViDa account, users can create a variety of birth and death reports with statewide counts or counts by county, city, or ZIP Code. Demographic variables, such as race/eāthnicity and education level, and health indicators, such as birthweight and cause of death, are additional options. See the full list of available variables below.ā
New data is added to Cal-ViDa on a māonthly basis. For more infoārmationā on how data in Cal-ViDa is refreshed, please visit the Cal-ViDa Help and FAQ page. Birth data is available from 2018 onwards and death data is available from 2015 onwards. Due to differences in legacy files, no earlier data will be accessible from theā application.
Additional datasets of birth and death data from 2017 and earlier, can be found on the California Health and Human Services (CHHS) Open Data Portal. For additional information, please refer to the Cal-ViDa Help and FAQ pageā or consult the Research and Analytics Branch (RAB) website.
