Welcomāāe to Cal-ViDa!
The Center for Health Statistics and Informatics (CHSI) is pleased to introduce the new California Vital Data (Cal-ViDa) query tool. Cal-ViDa allows users to creāate custom queries using California's birth and death data.
After creating a Cal-ViDa account, the public can use Cal-ViDa to create a variety of birth and death reports. Users can generate reports with statewide counts as well as counts by county, city, or ZIP Code. Selected demographic variables, such as race/eāthnicity and education level, and health indicators, such as birthweight and cause of death, are also available.
New data is added to Cal-ViDa on a monthly basis. For more infoārmation on how data in Cal-ViDa is refreshed, please visit the
Cal-ViDa Help and FAQ page. Birth data is available from 2018 onwards and death data is available from 2014 onwards. Due to differences in legacy files, no earlier data will be accessible from the application.
Additional datasets of birth and death data from 2017 and earlier, can be found on the
California Health and Human Services (CHHS) Open Data Portal. For additional information, please refer to the Cal-ViDa FAQ posted below or consult the Research and Analytics Branch (RAB) webpage.
