Organizational Assessment for Equity Infrastructure

The Office of Health Equity (OHE) COVID Equity Technical Assistance (TA) team in partnership with the Office of Policy and Planning, OPP (formerly known as the Fusion Center) collaborated to develop a Baseline Organizational Assessment for Equity Infrastructure in 2022. The objective was for local health jurisdictions (LHJs) to have a streamlined tool to collect data on their current equity infrastructure and use it to inform their future planning for equity. The assessment is now conducted on an annual basis to facilitate consistent dialogue and monitoring of their equity infrastructure journey.

The findings from the annual assessments will also be used to stay current with local public health equity capacity and technical assistance needs and inform the State Health Equity Plan. While our primary audience for this tool are the California LHJs, we welcome the application of this tool beyond health departments and California. Please feel free to use and adopt this tool to fit your organizational needs.ā€‹

Virtual Equity Toolkit

ā€‹The Virtual Equity Toolkit (VET) 2.0 found in the Equity Portalā€‹, is a dynamic compilation of equity resources divided into the 12 competencies of the Organizational Assessment for Equity Infrastructure and subsequently by the development levels of Early, Established, and Strong. Resources can also be filtered by resource type or an advanced search feature where you can apply multiple filters at the same time and/or search for key words. The VET complements the assessment examples and helps work through the domains and competencies of interest. In June 2024, the VET was updated with real-life examples of LHJ equity work that was gathered from the 2023 Annual Organizational Assessment for Equity Infrastructure.
