Additional products discovered to contain undeclared prescription drugs that may cause illness, injury, or death
What You Need To Know: The California Department of Public Health is warning consumers not to take certain products sold as dietary supplements for sexual enhancement, as these products contain prescription drugs that are not listed in the ingredient statement. Product images are available online.
Sacramento ā The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is issuing a second warning to consumers about certain products produced by Pyramid Wholesale as dietary supplements for sexual enhancement. They contain undeclared prescription drugs including Sildenafil (Viagra) and/or Tadalafil (Cialis) and should not be consumed.
The adulterated products have the potential to cause severe adverse health effects due to misuse, overuse, interaction with other medications, underlying health conditions, and overall lack of oversight or consultation with medical professionals. Those who consume undeclared prescription drugs risk a potentially serious or life-threatening reaction.
To date, no illnesses have been reported. ā
āThe adulterated products were distributed under seven different brand names that vary in form and size. Pyramid Wholesale sold the products in bulk to distributors and retailers across California and out of state. All seven products listed below should not be consumed, regardless of lot numbers or date information on packaging. Product images are available online.
CDPH issued a similar warning last month advising the public not to consume 11 different dietary supplements by Pyramid Wholesale, which also contain undeclared prescription drugs. That warning is still in effect and a full list of products is available on CDPHās website.
Consumers experiencing any ill effects after consuming these products should consult their health care provider. Anyone finding these products for sale should call the CDPH Complaint Hotline at (800) 495-3232 or submit an electroniāc report.
The adulterated products were discovered by laboratorāy testing of samples collected during an ongoing investigation. Pyramid Wholesale, based in Los Angeles, is currently working with CDPH and U.S. Food and Drug Administration to issue a voluntary recall for these products. CDPH issued a Notice of Violation to Pyramid Wholesale and the ongoing investigation may result in additional enforcement action, including civil or criminal penalties. āāā
