SUBJECT:
ā€‹Minimum Data Set (MDS) Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) 3.0 Userā€™s Manual v1.16, effective October 1, 2018

ā€‹All Facilities Letter (AFL) Summary

This AFL notifies all Medicare and/or Medicaid certified nursing facilities about the revised RAI 3.0 userā€™s manual including the new Minimum Data Set (MDS) 3.0 item sets that took effect on October 1, 2018.

ā€‹The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) publishes the RAI 3.0 Userā€™s Manual v1.16 as a public document which is available for duplication. The goal is to distribute information broadly to facilitate accurate and effective resident assessment practices in long-term care facilities.

The 3.0 manual v1.16 is available for print/download at the CMS website.

The 2018 MDS items sets (v1.16.1) are available on the CMS MDS 3.0 Technical Information webpage.

For questions, please contact Susan Belda at the MDS/OASIS State RAI Coordinator help desk by email at MDSOasis@cdph.ca.gov or by phone at (916) 324-2362.

Please distribute copies of this AFL to MDS Coordinators, Directors of Nursing, and Facility Administrators in your facility.

Sincerely,
