āāEnding the Epidemics Integrated Statewide Strategic Plan
The
Office of AIDS (OA) and the Sexually Transmitted Diseases Control Branch
(STDCB) are pleased to present the first integrated human immunodeficiency
virus (HIV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and sexually transmitted infections
(STIs) strategic plan for California. This new, guiding document replaces OAāsā integrated plan, Laying a Foundation for Getting to Zeroā, which was in
place from 2016ā2021ā.ā
The
new Ending the Epidemics Integrated Statewide Strategic Plan, addresses
the emerging syndemic* āof HIV, HCV, and STIsāā in California, marking progress
towardsā more equitably-addressing the health needs of all its residentsā.
The
Ending the Epidemics Integrated Statewide Strategic Plan is laid
out into six social determinants of health (SDoH), with each SDoH having their
own five strategies to help guide California āāātoward ending the syndemic of
HIV, HCV, and STIs.
A
companion piece entitled, Ending the Epidemics: Implementation Blueprint,
was developed in support of realizing the six SDoH and the thirty total
strategies highlighted in the Strategic Plan, and to make them
actionable and relevant at local levels. The Blueprint was
intentionally designed as a template so that programs (especially health
departments and community-based organizations) in Californiaās local health
jurisdictions could modify it to suit their unique local needs.
A ācrosswalkā has also been designed to compare the previous goals and objectives of the Integrated Plan from 2016ā2021, with the SDoH and strategies of the new Strategic Plan.
*Syndemic [sin-dem-ik]: In a syndemic, having one health issue places a person at greater risk for another one, and having two or more health issues at the same time, makes one or both health issues worse.ā
