Cal-ViDa can be used to create a variety of birth and death reports. Users can generate reports with statewide counts as well as counts by county, city, or ZIP Code. Selected demographic variables, such as race/ethnicity and education level, and health indicators, such as birthweight and cause of death, are also available.

Tabular Reports cost less than the creation of custom data files for research requests. These data are subject to cost recovery pursuant to California Health and Safety Code Section 102230. Once the application is received and reviewed, staff will provide a cost estimate and the approximate time needed to prepare the report.
Research applications require approval from the Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects (CPHS). This process can take approximately 2ā4 months after CDPH receives a complete application package.
